In honor of April Fools' Day, this month's Unwrapped celebrates the fine art of comedy. Check out the hilariously funny Hugo Perez and Victor Cruz yak it up about what it's like to be two of Cinedulce's funniest filmmakers. Hugo Perez
Hugo Perez is a filmmaker and writer whose work often focuses on his Cuban heritage. Perez' short film BETTY LA FLACA was the winner of the 2006 HBO/NYILFF Short Film Award and is being broadcast on the HBO networks through 2008. Perez previous short film "JULIETA Y RAMON" was broadcast as part of the 2005 Showtime Latino Filmmaker Showcase, which spotlights the work of emerging Latino directors, and was recently re-broadcast on the PBS series REEL NEW YORK. His writing has been featured in the New York Times Magazine and Salon, and his films have screened at venues such as MoMA and the Smithsonian. He has studied writing with Gabriel Garcia Marquez, collaborated with Pulitzer prize-winning novelist William Kennedy, and served as a guest artist for acclaimed theater director and artist Robert Wilson. Currently, Perez is developing his feature narrative directorial debut, "IMMACULATE CONCEPTION" a Spanish language dark comedy in the same vein as his award-winning short films. In Spring 2008, Perez will be debuting two feature documentaries on the festival circuit: NEITHER MEMORY NOR MAGIC and SUMMER SUN WINTER MOON.


Victor Cruz
Victor Cruz was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and raised in the heart of the South Bronx. At age sixteen he performed stand-up comedy at many clubs for the first time in downtown Manhattan in NYC. Victor has performed stand-up comedy at many clubs and colleges throughout the nation. He went out to perfect his craft as an actor in the Acting Conservatory at SUNY Purchase College. While there, he played such roles as Lavrenti in The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht and Dromio of Ephesus in The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare. The day before graduation from SUNY Purchase College, Victor landed his first TV role on HBO's THE SOPRANOS. From there he flew out to LA to do a taping of SITV's Latino Laugh Festival. Shortly after, Victor self-produced and starred on his own show titled THE VICTOR CRUZ SHOW, which hit the DVD market. Victor's TV and FILM credits include THE SOPRANOS, LAW & ORDER (as the role of Giberto), LAW & ORDER: TRIAL BY JURY (as a Grand Juror) LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT (as Officer Vasquez), CONVICTION (as OFFICER MARDRID) and plays the role of Victor Camacho in the INSIDE MAN Directed by SPIKE LEE.
