Diabetes is a disease which is characterized by high level of glucose in the bloodstream. The glucose present in the blood provides energy to the body for performing several activities. Causes of Diabetes
The body controls the level of blood sugar with the help of various hormones. One such hormone is insulin which is being produced by the pancreas. This hormone enable the sugar present in the blood to move into the cells where it acts as a source of energy. Diabetes is commonly categorized into two different forms: Type 1 and Type 2. When a person’s body fail to produce adequate amount of insulin, then it leads to type 1 diabetes. This condition arises when the immune system starts attacking the insulin producing cells of the pancreas and destroy them. On the other hand, in type 2 diabetes, the body cells of the patient fail to utilize insulin properly. In other words, the cells develop some kind of resistance towards insulin. Genetic factors along with a number of environmental factors like some specific viral infections or alcohol abuse are often held responsible for type 1 diabetes. In large number of people, type 2 diabetes is genetic and has been found to run in their families.
